Stop the Threat, Stop the Quarry!

Saturday, October 1st, 2011

Melancthon Township is at a critical turning point. We have to act now if we want to save 2316 acres of our land. Our own Credit, Humber, and Grand rivers are equally threatened since this vast quarry is planned to be constructed at the headwaters of these very rivers.

Melancthon Township

How can we help, stop the threat and stop the quarry?

There are at least a couple of things we recommend:

  1. Join the gathering! In Honeywood, Ontario of Melancthon Township on 4 of the farms that refused to sell out, a whopping 20,000 people and 70 of Ontario’s chefs will gather in a tasting of local food to raise awareness and support our native land. The gathering is on October 16th, 2011. For more information visit www.canadianchefscongress.com.
  2. Write a letter! Apparently this magnitude of quarry doesn’t qualify for a full Environmental Assessment, only an approval by the Ministry of natural resources is required under the Aggregate Resources Act at this time. We would recommend secondly to write a letter to the Minister of the Environment, John Wilkinson, to request the full Environmental Assessment.

Local food is definitely important to us here at Raw Aura. We would surely be disappointed to see such waste of valuable water and farm land. Here are some more links to help us better understand the severity of the proposed Melancthon Quarry:
Sincerely,
Raw Aura
